The Studies on Salmonella isolated from Healthy Korean Soldiers

Abstract
During the 9 months from January of 1965 to September of the same year, author isolated salmonella from 4,316 healthy Korean soldiers including primarily food handler an4 those who were randomly selected. The strains isolated were examined in some biological properties and the following results were obtained.
1. From 4,316 persons 13 strains of salmonella were isolated and were classified 5 strains as s. paratrphi B, 3 as s. paratyphi 6. 2 as s. paratyphi A and s. typhi, and one as salmonella E group. Consequently, the carrier rate of salmonella was 3 per 1000 healthy persons.
2. The biological properties of salmonella isolated were slightly different comparing with works performed by others.
3. Antibiotic susceptibility of isolated strains was tested by the paper disc method and it was found that all of the strains was susceptible to SM and those susceptible to CM, NF, TC, NM and TM were followed in the order of decreasing number. All of the strains fore resistant to EM and BN.
4. Multiple drug resistant strains were also found and strains resistant to 2 or 7 drugs were more or less predominant.
5. As for the results of phage typhing, trphoid strains of M©ûtype and 2 paratyphoid strains of Beccled type, one of B.A.O.R. type and 2 strains showing resistance to typhing phages were detected.
